Since the inception of Slick Marketers, we have had the great fortune to not only be led by our incredible woman president, Nikki Ong, but also the opportunity to work alongside some of the brightest and most talented women in business. In honor of Women’s History Month, we’re highlighting women that we deeply admire and inspire us. We hope this series encourages women and girls everywhere to keep striving for their dreams.
First up in our Women in Business series is Suzette Christian-Marchetti. Suzette is the Strategic Partnerships Director for Advance Beauty College, a highly respected beauty and wellness education provider, located in Garden Grove, CA. She received her bachelor’s in communications from Villanova University, before working for beauty industry powerhouses including Paul Mitchell the School, Spa Montage, and Dermalogica.Â
Continue reading, as Suzette shares her experiences and delivers a message not only for women currently in business, but also for those aspiring to join their ranks:
How have other women shaped your career?
I have been so fortunate to be around strong, successful businesswomen my entire career. As a young woman new to the business world, I remember sitting in a meeting with accomplished female leaders and being in awe of their presence. I recall thinking that if I can take one characteristic from each of them and emulate it throughout my career, it would make me a successful leader. That is what I did and continue to do.
What do you wish you had learned earlier in your career?
Fail forward. Learn from every mistake you make.
How do you think companies would benefit from having more women at the top?
Women are great nurturers and draw out the best in people. Because of this innate quality, women create incredible teams in business.
What are your thoughts about work/life balance?
Now more than ever, I recognize that taking time to unplug and recharge is essential. It makes me a better leader, friend, partner, and parent. Also, at this stage of my life, I understand moments are fleeting and time is incredibly valuable. Therefore, I try to be present when it matters most.
How should women support other women in their organizations?
Women carry the weight of the world on their shoulders and make it appear so seamless. After becoming a first-time mom in my late forties, I appreciate now more than ever the essence of womanhood. I wish we would all acknowledge each other’s journey, be kinder and more supportive, and realize we are stronger together.
What keeps you motivated and driven?
Finding joy, whatever that looks like for you.
As we reflect on our Women in Business series featuring insights from Suzette Christian-Marchetti, it’s clear that the impact of remarkable women transcends mere professional achievements. Suzette’s journey underscores the importance of mentorship, resilience, and the innate ability of women to nurture teams. Her words emphasize the crucial role of support and solidarity among women in the workplace. As we commemorate Women’s History Month, let’s not only celebrate the accomplishments of inspiring women, but also recommit ourselves to fostering an environment of empowerment and inclusivity. Together, let’s continue inspiring women and girls everywhere to pursue their aspirations and strive for greatness.
